I honestly cannot believe we are heading into the last three months of 2026!
Since taking over as Running Captain in March/April, a LOT has happened. So, for those who are new to CMC — and those who have been around but are wondering where everything is going — here’s a quick highlights catch-up.
We kicked off the year with Oceans, with more than 100 CMC athletes taking part across the various events.
Our Noordhoek ultra water point was a massive success, with plenty of CMC energy and support on the route. The runners definitely enjoyed the vibe!
Not long after Oceans came the Cape Town Marathon, with close to 100 CMC runners taking part.
Another fantastic event for the club, with some great performances and plenty of red, black and white out on the roads.
And then, in what felt like record speed, it was Comrades!
Silver medals, PBs, big performances, the send-off and everything that went with it made for another memorable CMC Comrades campaign.
A huge congratulations to everyone who took on the challenge — whether it was your first Comrades, another medal, a PB or simply getting yourself to the start line.
We also had the Versus Out & Back Challenge, with CMC taking on the Stellenbosch leg.
And once again, the sea of red was impossible to miss!
It was fantastic seeing so many CMC runners out there, proudly wearing the club colours and supporting one another along the route. This is what the club is about — not just the running, but the comradeship, club spirit and sense of belonging that comes with being part of CMC.
Whether you were racing, pacing, supporting or simply wearing the kit and cheering from the sidelines, you helped make CMC visible and showed exactly what our club community is about.
Our junior athletes, together with some of our senior runners, have also been busy representing CMC on the cross-country circuit this year.
Cross country is a fantastic way to keep running through the winter months. The changing terrain, hills, grass and varied surfaces challenge you in a completely different way from road running — and it’s a great place to build strength, fitness and running confidence.
It’s also a brilliant environment for our younger runners to develop their skills, gain race experience and, most importantly, have fun while being part of a team.
For our seniors, it’s another opportunity to keep the legs moving, maintain fitness through winter and add some variety to the training week.
A big well done to everyone who pulled on the CMC colours and took part this season!
The Battle of the North has certainly delivered some excitement this year!
At the Durbanville leg at Willowbridge, CMC took the Queen Trophy.
Then last week at BAK’s event at Jack Muller Park, we had close to 50 CMC athletes on the start line.
And we did it again — taking both the King AND Queen Trophies! 👑👑
Thank you to everyone who came out and represented CMC.
The final Battle of the North leg is coming up — and this time we are hosting!
Please put 27 October in your diary. Whether you are running, volunteering, supporting or helping behind the scenes, we will need the CMC family out in force.
More details will follow soon.
On 6 September, around 3,500 runners took to the streets of Kuils River for the Tekkie Challenge.
And behind the scenes were our amazing CMC volunteers, marshals, cyclists and support crew.
It was a HUGE event and a massive success.
Thank you to every single person who gave up their time, stood on a corner, rode a bike, helped with logistics, directed runners or simply made sure the event ran safely.
You represented CMC brilliantly.
And yes… we will need you all again next year!
📅 Save the first Saturday of September 2027.
The Comrades 100 campaign has officially launched digitally, and while things may look quiet from the outside, there are plenty of our runners quietly putting in the work behind the scenes.
The Spring Marathon season is also well underway.
With Voet of Africa kicking things off, we now have:
Blouberg
Hangklip
Winelands
Vlakte
And most of these events also offer a half-marathon distance, so there are plenty of opportunities to get those kilometres in before the year is done.
It’s going to be a busy few months!

Our CMC gazebo has also been getting plenty of mileage this year!
We have supported events including:
A huge thank you to everyone who has volunteered to host, set up, pack down and spend time representing CMC at these events.
Our final big gazebo outing for the year is Winelands Marathon on 7 November, and we still need a host.
If you can help, please let me know.
Our three regular weekly Pack Runs continue to grow, and if you follow our socials or WhatsApp groups, you will have seen more and more runners joining us.
And if you've been thinking:
“I’m too slow to join…”
You’re not.
We have changed the Pack Run format to make it more inclusive and accessible, with different route options and a focus on running together.
Come and give it a try!

A massive thank you to all our Pack Run hosts who give up their Sunday mornings to make these happen.
We do, however, still need a few more hosts for upcoming Pack Runs. If you’ve ever thought about hosting, now is a great time to get involved.
Our Tuesday Track sessions with Dave continue to grow, and the monthly Five8 Time Trials are also building momentum.
The recent Col'Cacchio TT evening was a huge success, with a great turnout and atmosphere.
Thank you to everyone who keeps showing up, putting in the work and supporting these sessions.
Before we know it, we’ll be wrapping up another year!

There is still plenty happening before we close out 2026.
Between the Battle of the North, marathons, half marathons, Comrades 100 training, Pack Runs, Track, Time Trials and our club events, there is no shortage of opportunities to run, race, volunteer or simply get involved.
The Running Section is growing — and that is because of you.
